Open Days and Consultation

Tuesday 1st October, 2013

We want to consult with as many parts of the school community as we can so we will be holding a number of events to talk about our plans and to hear opinions or ideas on how we can make Studio West a part of the educational community of Newcastle.

Monday 14th October - Public Consultation

On Monday 14th October, we are holding a Public Consultation evening for anyone who would like to contribute to the ongoing discussion about Studio West.

The evening will be hosted by our sponsor, Kenton School, on their campus at:

Drayton Road
Newcastle Upon Tyne

The Public Consultation evening starts at 6pm.

Wednesday 23rd October - Parent Consultation

On Wednesday 23rd October, we are holding an Information Evening for any parents who are interested in their child becoming part of Studio West, would like to know more or would like to contribute to the ongoing consultation about our school.

The evening will be hosted by our sponsor, Kenton School, on their campus at:

Drayton Road
Newcastle Upon Tyne

The Information Evening starts at 6pm.

This is an opportunity for parents to discuss how Studio West can benefit their child and to hear more about this unique vision for providing education to our region's young people. It is also a chance to share thoughts about how Studio West will fit into the education landscape of our region and the suitability of our focus on work based learning as a way of improving the educational experience of young people.

We recently posted out an information flyer to every home in the city which provided more details about Studio West and Studio Schools in general. A copy of this flyer is available to download in PDF format. In this flyer we also outlined details of how to enrol at Studio West if you have already decided that Studio West offers the best opportunity for your child.

Online Consultation

If you are unable to make either of these evenings, and even if you are planning on coming, we would love to hear your thoughts about the Studio West approach and would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete our brief consultation questionnaire. The information we get from questionnaires will be used to support the next stages of Studio West as we move towards opening in September 2014.

If you would like to talk directly to our Principal Designate, Val Wigham, please call us on 0191 2142212 or if you prefer you can contact us online or through any of our social networking accounts:

What is Studio West?

Studio West is the first Studio School in Newcastle and the first 13-19 Studio School in the United Kingdom. We are due to open in September 2014 and our campus will be at West Denton Way.

Our school has been developed in partnership with Kenton School and is designed to help students better prepare for the world of work or further education by delivering a new approach that combines high quality classroom teaching with practical work related activities both in and beyond the Studio West campus.

Students who attend Studio West will not only gain qualifications in traditional subjects but also become experts in their chosen pathways by working with local companies on industry standard specialist work based projects that give students experience of the real world of work.

At the heart of the Studio West campus will also be an Enterprise Centre where businesses can lease space in exchange for a commitment to support the delivery of our vision for world class education, consulting on the shaping of the curriculum and by offering advice and opportunities to our students for future employability. Students will work on real projects created in collaboration with multi-national businesses and members of the community.

Although Studio Schools are a new concept, the focus is one which industry has been demanding for some time. Businesses want young people to be work ready and therefore Studio West will be at the forefront of delivering this innovation. We believe strongly in the Studio West vision and we are making a promise that:

"Every student will be guaranteed a place at university, an apprenticeship, a job, or a chance to set up their own business when they leave us. That is the guarantee Studio West will give each and every student that walks through the doors"
