We are delighted to announce that Val Wigham, formerly Deputy Headteacher at Kenton School, has been appointed Principal Designate of Studio West.
Val will take up the post immediately and leaves her role Deputy Head at Kenton to concentrate solely on her role as Principal Designate and Project Manager of Studio West.
Competition for the position of Principal Designate at Studio West was extremely competitive, with applications received from around the world, including one from Chile, in South America. Val, who has more than 25 years’ experience in teaching and extensive experience in leadership, is also passionate about business, having taken a significant role in running her family farm since her late teens.
Asked about her appointment with Studio West, Val said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been appointed to this role. I am passionately behind the ethos and concept of this school, which I believe stands to change the face of education in the UK. ”
“What we’re trying to create here is an educational environment where young people will become confident, accomplished and skilled adults who are equipped not only with the qualifications employers want, but the subtler skills, such as personal responsibility, team-working and autonomy, which are invaluable in any business. We want our young people to walk out of our doors with the best possible chance of getting a job, going to university or setting up their own business. “
“In fact, I am so confident this school will deliver, that I’m putting my name to a personal guarantee that every student who leaves Studio West will be offered a place at university, a job or an apprenticeship.”
