In a June 2013 interview with BBC Radio Newcastle’s Simon Pride, Val Wigham, Studio West’s Principal Designate, spoke about life in the new school:

‘…at the heart of the school there will be an enterprise centre and the students will work alongside business so can you just imagine that environment where you've got a student and an employer working side by side so there's going to be a combination of offices, small business units, studios and workshops and they'll be there with our students and giving them those soft skills that at the minute employers say we don't actually have.’

Simon Pride ‘It sounds ground-breaking. So does this mean that pupils are going to be spending much less time doing traditional academic work, then?’

Val Wigham ‘No, but it'll be done in a completely different way so if you really want to get to the bottom of it at Key Stage 4, this is sort of your 14 to 16 year olds, they'll be working on projects so the GCSEs will be actually delivered through live projects that employers will be helping create.’
